Pedestrian Dynamics Video Tutorials
Get started with Pedestrian Dynamics.Â
Build your first model
- Draw obstacle and Entry\Exit area elements in the model layout
- Run the model
- Adjust when an agent is created in the model
Basic modeling – Drawing elements
- Use the Draw, Activity, Action and Special toollbars to draw elements in the layout.
- Work with the drawing modes: Pan, Select and Move
- Draw elements with different shapes in the layout
- Work with snap to grid
Building the infrastructure
- Raise or tilt walkable area elements to create different heights in one Height Layer
- Use height layers to model multiple floorsÂ
- Use the layers panel to control the visibility of the height layers
- Use infrastructural elements such as Stairs, Escalators and moving walks to connect the layers
Working with activity locations
- Agents enter and exit the model at activity locations
- Activities (e.g., shopping or buying a ticket) occur at these locations in the layout
- There are seven types of activity locations, but they function the same, the types simply help specify where certain activities happen
- The activity time setting determines how long an agent stays, either based on a probability distribution or until triggered to leave
Defining behavior using the Agent input form
- Get familiar with the Agent input form
- Define the agent profile
- Set up activities for the agents
- Configure activity routes
- Set up agent generators
Agent activities and routes
- The activity route is an ordered list of activities such as buying a ticket, check-in and board a train
- Activities take place at certain type of activity locations drawn in the environment
- When an activity is defined, a rule needs to be selected how one of the activity locations is chosen
Generating agents
- The agent generator also assigns an activity route and profile the each of the agents.
- How the repetitive setting and arrival list can be used to create different arrival patterns.
Simulation runs and performing experiments
- Define different scenarios, with different run length and model parameters
- Determine which log files are created
Evaluate output
- How you can create density and frequency maps
- How to draw flow counters and plot the flow over time
- How to create travel time maps
- How to use the result player to replay the results created by an experiment
Import a geometry
- Learn how to automatically build your model’s infrastructure from a CAD or CityGML geometry
- Place a background image in a height layer
- Use the CAD import tool to generate the infrastructure from your CAD geometry
Background ECM errors
- Understand what type of routing errors can occur if mistakes are made building the infrastructure
- What solutions might solve a problem in the routing network
Transportation elements
- How a time schedule is created for the transport elements
- How to generate agents based on the schedule of the transport elements
- How to model the platform in the infrastructure and define the wait activity at the platform
